Entrepreneurship is often associated with starting something from scratch—developing an idea, raising capital, building a team, and working tirelessly to create a successful business. While we have tremendous respect for founders who choose that path, we believe there is another equally compelling way to create value: acquiring and growing exceptional existing businesses.
At Eight Six Ventures, we pursue both acquisitions and early-stage investments, but acquisitions are the foundation of our long-term strategy. We believe that buying a well-run business with strong people, loyal customers, and a proven operating history can be one of the most effective ways to create enduring value.
Every established business represents years—often decades—of hard work. Behind every customer relationship, operating process, and employee is a story of persistence, innovation, and commitment. Our goal isn't to reinvent those businesses. It's to build upon what already makes them exceptional.
Acquiring an existing company also allows us to focus our energy where we believe it has the greatest impact: supporting management teams, improving operations, allocating capital thoughtfully, and investing in long-term growth. Rather than starting at zero, we begin with a foundation that has already demonstrated its ability to serve customers and create value.
That doesn't mean acquisitions are easy. Every business presents unique opportunities and challenges. Success requires careful due diligence, disciplined decision-making, and a long-term perspective. We believe patient ownership, operational excellence, and respect for the people who built the business are just as important after an acquisition as they are before it.
While acquisitions form the core of our strategy, we also recognize that tomorrow's great businesses often begin as ambitious ideas. That's why we selectively invest in exceptional pre-seed and early-stage founders whose vision, determination, and products have the potential to shape the future. Whether partnering with an established company or an emerging entrepreneur, our investment philosophy remains the same: support outstanding people, think long term, and create lasting value.
Ultimately, we don't view acquisitions and venture investing as competing strategies—they're complementary. One allows us to steward businesses with proven histories, while the other gives us the opportunity to support the next generation of founders from the very beginning.
At Eight Six Ventures, we're building an organization designed to endure. We believe great businesses deserve long-term owners, exceptional founders deserve thoughtful partners, and patient capital has the power to create value that extends far beyond financial returns.
